Malú Tansey, Ph.D., was featured on the cover of the January 2021 journal of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society for her work entitled “Genetic and environmental factors in Parkinson’s converge on immune function and inflammation”, which focuses on how gene-by-environment interplay activates immune and inflammatory pathways to trigger Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Tansey, co-director of UF’s Center for Translational Research in Neurodegenerative Disease, co-authored the review with leading neurodegenerative disease researchers across the United States and Europe.

“By reviewing these interactions, we seek to stimulate future development of immunomodulatory approaches to prevent or delay onset of idiopathic Parkinson’s and perhaps other neurodegenerative conditions where chronic immune dysregulation is a hallmark,” Tansey said.
